Is this concept art from the First Avenger Captain America? Will we marvel at this animated feature?

001Bopping around the Internets I encountered this little gem. Kris Anka put together a series of concepts for a Captain America animated show. The idea is making it more of a secret agent type show and closer to how Ed Brubaker was writing Cap before he left the title. I for one would be very excited to see this type of show. Sadly I don’t think it is going to happen. Enjoy the next two concepts including Cap’s Rogues Gallery and his S.H.I.E.L.D allies including an interesting look to Agent 13. Continue reading

Red Skull Incarnate is the origin story of the Red Skull, written and drawn in the same way as Magneto Testament.  Here we may find out who is the Red Skull, what drives him, what haunts him and how he fell so far. Opening up the pages and you can tell you are in for a grim tale with the muted palette and historical back drop of the rise of the Nazi party. Utterly frightening seeing this dark period of history come to life in front of you.

The first book sets the tone of this series, it is dark, it is unforgiving, it is going to pull you right out of your comfort zone and it may take you further down the rabbit hole than you are normally willing to go. The story is compelling in its grimness, you are drawn to each panel searching what made the innocent boy you see turn to such a path of darkness.  This is what comic story telling should be, story first before anything else.

Red Skull Incarnate is a mature read dealing with a dark subject matter. This book will make you squirm, will make you feel uncomfortable reading it, but you are witnessing the birth of absolute evil here and this book does not pull its punches; nor should it. David Aga brings us an amazing Propaganda poster cover graphically beautiful and chilling all at the same time, the internal art by Mirko Colak with the colors of Matthew Wilson draw you into this world.

This is by far the best book of this week, a strong contender for one of the best books of this year. If you are looking for a gripping story I strongly suggest picking up Red Skull Incarnate from your local comic book store.
